Purpose
Worship is giving God the glory He alone deserves. It is not for Sunday mornings only, but for every day in the life of a believer. Music is one tool God has given us to help us worship Him. Both through example and command, Scripture shows us the important role music plays in the worship of God. Psalm 66:2 says, “Sing the glory of His name; give to Him glorious praise!” Music is a gift from God, intended to assist us as we develop and deepen our relationship with Him.
The Worship Ministry of Severns Valley Baptist Church exists to magnify the greatness of God in Christ. We want to identify, train and deploy musicians who will humbly and skillfully serve God’s purposes for and through the church. We understand the critical role that songs play in shaping our theology. Therefore, we desire to sing songs that both reflect and glorify Christ and communicate His glorious gospel.
Who We Are
We are an ever growing community of diverse musicians seeking to serve the body of Christ in the following ways:
• Sunday Morning Worship Team
• Worship Choir
• Instrumental Worship
• Celebrate Recovery Worship Team
We seek to provide opportunities to use and develop each team members individual strengths, whether they be trained or self taught, read music or play by ear, or whether they play other people’s songs or write their own.
Our Worship Choir leads in the 10:45 AM service and is open to anyone high school age and up who is committed to Christ and to membership at Severns Valley. No auditions are required and while musical knowledge is always helpful, it is not necessary to join. The Worship Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM in the choir room.
Our Worship Teams consist of keyboardists, guitarists, percussionists, brass, wind and string players and vocalists. Commitment to Christ and membership at Severns Valley is required as is an audition. Please contact the Worship Pastor for more information.
Values
We are deeply committed to God’s glory and the gospel. We encourage active involvement in the church body and accountability, humility, servanthood, gratefulness, expressiveness, faithfulness, and an ongoing pursuit of spiritual and musical growth.
